The Most Important Weight Loss Tip - Calorie Control

People who are overweight or experiencing obesity should fully understand the causes of their dangerous health condition - a complete lack of exercise in their daily lives, and from eating too much unhealthy and poor quality food in excessive quantities. Once a sufferer is aware of the effects of being over weight has on his/her general health, they will take steps to alleviate the situation, either by seeing a medical professional, or else by starting a diet program.

A medical expert will explain the necessity of consuming the right food in order to allow the body to function as it should, and that any excess calories above that figure will be stored in the body as fat. These excess calories can be eliminated from the body by undertaking an exercise program.

So to begin the process of losing weight, a person with such a problem should be aware of the number of calories needed to maintain life in its simplest form. This figure is determined by many factors such as gender; height; weight; age; and level of physical activity.

'Life in its simplest form' refers to the amount of energy - calories - needed to carry on the everyday bodily functions such as breathing; digesting food; thinking; seeing; hearing; beating of the heart; etc. All of these functions - and many others - are necessary for life to carry on.
The number of calories needed for this is the minimum number needed to be consumed and is referred to as the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

All calories consumed in excess of the BMR are stored as fat and lead to weight gain unless attempts are made to reduce this fat build up by undertaking an exercise program. This program should be strenuous enough to get rid of the excess calories consumed from recent meals.
This can be best explained by taking the case of a male person of average height, weight and age. The BMR of this person, for example, might be 2500 calories daily, and he achieves this by eating nutritious meals during the day, in moderate quantities. He eats a wide range of foods from all the necessary food groups and including all the major vitamins and minerals.

However if our example consumes in total 3000 calories a day and not the BMR figure of 2500 calories, then he will be consuming 500 calories daily more than is required, or 3500 calories a week. This represents a weight increase of about 1lb. caused by the body storing the extra calories as fat.
So if our example wants to maintain his weight at a constant level he will need to shed the extra 500 calories a day he's consuming and he can achieve this by a combination of eating less ( or eating less high calorie food) and exercising regularly.

An exercise program designed to achieve weight loss can be a very simple activity such as an hours brisk walk each day; jogging; swimming; playing an active sport such tennis or squash. Which ever exercise is chosen it should be one that suits each individual. Picking an exercise routine that's too demanding will quickly lead to a lack of interest and failure.

A brisk walk of one hour a day for seven days will help to reduce a person's weight - or the equivalent of getting rid of 250 calories a day.

The other 250 calories can be eliminated by being more selective about what is eaten. Eating smaller portions; cutting down on high calories food; eating low fat meats, dairy products, etc. Over a week this represents half the reduction in calories consumed and with the 250 calories daily expended by regular exercise, the amount saved over a seven day period is 3500 calories which translates into a weight loss of about 1lb. Without too much effort or difficulty, this is a figure that should be easily attainable.

Calorie control and perseverance would seem to be the easiest and safest methods of reducing weight. In other words monitor the food eaten, giving special attention to the calorie content and the size of each portion. This together with a moderate exercise regime should be enough to ensure no weight gain occurs.
However some people may feel they have a need to take a supplement to assist with fat loss.

Whilst there are many products on the market that are either fat binders or appetite suppressants or even both, many have never been evaluated to determine their efficiency.

One product that has been approved by the regulatory authorities because of its ability to work as advertised is Proactol Plus.
After having a weight problem some years ago, the author, Gareth Black, developed an interest in the medical condition of being over weight and the benefits of an obesity pill.
