How to Burn More Calories Than You Take In

Burning calories is essential when you decide to lose weight. In order to burn one pound of fat, you will have to burn about 3,500 calories. There are various ways to do this through exercise but due to some common mistakes, many people give up on exercise after awhile due to time constraints and boredom. The exercise done the most when it is time to lose weight is cardio.


People usually overdo cardio by spending an hour or longer on a treadmill, elliptical, or running outdoors. In essence, they become cardio junkies. While any physical activity is better than none, too much cardiovascular exercise can cause muscle loss. We need muscle to burn more calories. One pound of muscle burns more calories than one pound of fat.

Muscles even burn calories while at rest, therefore the more you have, the more you can burn. It makes sense to spend more time doing muscle building exercises than cardiovascular ones. The great news is that you can do this in less time and have more fun doing so.

High Calorie Burning Exercises
The goal should be to build muscle. This doesn't mean trying to build the physique of a bodybuilder. You will not need to spend hours in the gym lifting weights or having to invest in expensive weight machines. The most you will need is your own body weight and some dumbbells.

Two calorie burning combos are calisthenics and interval training. Calisthenics are exercises such push-ups, squats, lunges, jumping jacks, dips, and pull-ups. Intervals are mixing up these routines, doing several reps of each, and taking 30 to 60 seconds of rest in between sets. If you add in free-weights such as dumbbells you will increase your intensity and burn more fat and calories at the same time.

  • Adjustable bench
  • Medicine ball
  • Doorway pull-up bar
Another important tip is to not neglect your eating habits. Eating high calorie foods will only slow your progress. An easy method of eating is to avoid processed foods. Always think lean meat, seafood, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, and good fats. Eat this way a majority of the time and you will not worry about overeating and consuming too much fat and calories. Be mindful of your beverages as well. I highly recommend cutting out soda and alcohol. They are full of empty calories.
